Masjid e Taneem is a mosque in the Al-Hil area about 5 miles away from the Holy Kaaba, in Taneem, which is near Mecca and acts as Miqat (a station for putting on pilgrims' garments) for people living in Mecca. This mosque is also known as Masjid -e- Ayesha since Prophet Mohammed 's wife Ayesha had put her Ihram (restriction on Pilgrimage) from this place once. If someone is living in Mecca and wants to perform Umra(pilgrimage to Mecca) then he should go to this place, enter into the state of Ihram (in part by putting on pilgrim's garments) and then return to Mecca so that the condition of traveling for the pilgrims is also fulfilled. The Prophet has said: “Part of the worship of Hajj and Umra is to travel in the way of Allah and to go out of the city.”[1]
This is quite a big mosque with superb facilities for baths, ablution and changing, available for pilgrims and those who come to offer regular prayers.
Masjid Aisha, also known as Masjid at-Tan’eem marks the place where Ummul-Mu’mineen Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) went to enter into Ihram for Umrah when the Prophet (ﷺ) told her to do so during the farewell Hajj. The masjid lies 7.5 km south from Makkah on the road to Madinah and is the closest of all the boundary points.
Jaabir (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that because Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) was experiencing menstrual cycle the Prophet (ﷺ) instructed her to perform all the various rites of Hajj except for the tawaf. She then performed the tawaaf after her cycle had ended. She then said, “O Rasulullah (ﷺ)! While you have performed Hajj and Umrah, I have performed only Hajj.” The Prophet (ﷺ) then instructed her brother Abdur-Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) to take her to Tan’eem and it was from there that she performed her Umrah after her Hajj during the month of Dhul Hijjah.Masjid Aisha formerly known as Masjid Taneem is located 5 miles away to the south of Makkah, in Al-Hil area, called Taneem. This masjid is the nearest miqat for the people living in Makkah or around and its name is associated with Hazrat Aisha (R.A), as she was the first person who used this mosque as miqat.
There are many ahadith about this Masjid and Aisha رضي الله عنه relation to its name. This masjid is the nearest miqat for the residents of Makkah, either permanent or temporary; the person who comes for haj or umra, and wish to perform more than one umrah, this masjid is the easiest miqat.
Sunnah way of umrah is to leave sanctuary (haram) limits and then again enter with ihram, because having ihram is not allowed in sanctuary boundary, and going back to origin city and then come back is a tedious task.
One scholar mentioned in his book, “The boundary for ‘Umrah for one who is in Makkah is the area outside the sanctuary, and it is better to do the ihram from Ji’irranah or at-Tan’eem”
