Masjid-e-Tooba, A Beautiful Mosque in Sindh



The title of Sindh ‘Babul Islam’ has a major effect on the infrastructure of Sindh. Because of influence of Islamic culture and civilization one can find world’s largest and oldest religious places like tombs, peer (Saints) and Masjids in sindh. One of them is Masjid-e-Tooba it is located at old Korangi road Karachi Sindh. The Masjid-e-Tooba was built by the Defense House Authority (DHA) Karachi the architecture is very amazing to the visitors it was design by Dr. Babar Hamid (Chartered Architecture). The construction of the Masjid took almost three years to completed it started from 1966 and ended in November 1969 it covers the area of 5570 sq. ft., and the dome is known as World’s one of the largest single dome, the diameter of the dome is 5148 ft. and the height of Minar is 120 ft.

The material like mirrors in foam concrete white tiles is used to make the Masjid-e-Tooba more beautiful and attractive for the visitors; the design of the Masjid is simple and beautiful. In the front of Masjid-e-Tooba a water fountain is built and it’s both sides the place for (wazu) is available where more than 5000 people can perform wazu at the same time. The doors to enter in the dome area are open from different sides to facilitate people to come and go from any side, other than that the amazing thing of the structure of Masjid-e-Tooba is it has no pillar in the center to hold the weight of tall single dome but it is just build on low surrounding walls. It’s amazing that a single huge dome don’t have support in the middle. There is a terrace that is also being used for Namaz and it has large lawns. The capacity for Namazi’s in Namaz hall is 5000. Terrace includes 80000 capacity of Namazi’s and lawns include 30000 Namazi’s.

Masjid-e-Tooba is also known as Gol masjid because of its single dome. The dome eco the sounds if you will stay at the one side of the dome and speak to the person who is standing on the other side of dome so he listens it easily this is because of sound refection or eco of sound. The Masjid-e-Tooba is not designed with fancy art work or other expensive material rather it is simply decorated with the mirrors that makes it impressive for all people. Out sides of the dome the water fountains are used for the decoration of dome. The people who prayer doesn’t only come but people from other countries and cities (visitors, tourist) also come to see this religious place available in Sindh. These masjids like Badshahi masjid, Shah Jahan masjid, and Masjid-e-Tooba and their architecture enhance the beauty of Sindh. These places provides peace of mind and soul and people feel relax there and also prayer five times in a day and also recites Holly Quran daily. Masjid-e-Tooba is a very beautiful place to visit to see it how its dome is built by a Pakistani and muslin Architecture.
